On Monday, June 22, 2026, Sliding into Finance led a financial literacy discussion with a group of high school students in conjunction with the UMPS CARE Official Leadership Program at the Houston Astros Youth Academy (AYA) in Houston, TX.
The presentation marked the first in a series of discussions with the UMPS CARE Program — an initiative designed to provide teens with valuable life and leadership skills both on the field and in the classroom. Sliding into Finance is proud to serve as the financial literacy partner to the Official Leadership Program.
The session was held in the Bob Watson Education Center’s College Readiness Room — a space designed to prepare student athletes for life beyond the field. Topics covered included budgeting, saving, and how to put umpire income to work through smart financial habits.
Students were challenged with a homework assignment: identify one concrete step they could take this week to start saving with their umpire income — from opening a savings account to setting a weekly savings target.
