Sliding into Finance will provide the financial literacy education to the UMPS CARE Official Leadership Program, which takes place across the country at various facilities, usually in association with Major League Baseball teams.

UMPS CARE Charities was founded in 2006 through the compassion of Major League Baseball (MLB) umpires and provides financial, in-kind and emotional support for America’s youth and families in need. The UMPS CARE mission puts into action its established creed, “Helping People is an Easy Call.”

The Official Leadership Program teaches sportsmanship, leadership and mentorship through the lens of baseball and provides on-the-field umpire mechanics lessons to teens from underserved communities while taking time in the classroom to learn goal setting, perseverance and financial literacy.

Sliding into Finance will begin its support of the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy by teaching financial literacy to the Academy’s summer programming for underserved youth in the DC area. We will continue to support the Academy after that with further programming and grants.

The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy is the signature program of Nationals Philanthropies. For over a decade, the Nationals Academy has served over 6,000 D.C. youth across a continuum of free programs designed to foster their positive character development, academic achievement, and improved health. Through after-school and summer programming offered onsite at the Academy, Academy Scholars receive supplemental support to advance social and emotional learning (SEL) skills and habits central to academic success.

The BASE afterschool and summer program delivers holistic enrichment that focuses on reinforcing core academics with a particular emphasis on mathematics, enhancing problem-solving skills, and exploratory enrichment experiences that expose Scholars to new topics. Since beginning after school programs in the fall of 2013, five classes have matriculated from third through eighth grade in the BASE afterschool and summer program.
